We began 40 hours of Adoration at St. John the Evangelist on Tuesday in preparation for the St. Carlo Acutis Feast Day. St. John, my parish, is part of the St. Carlo Acutis Family of Parishes, which also includes nearby St. Gabriel the Archangel and St. Michael the Archangel.
The 40 hours began right after 8:30 a.m. Mass, which was quite fitting. The gospel reading on Tuesday, if you’ve forgotten, was from Luke, 10:38-42, the story of Christ coming to visit Martha and Mary. Martha, of course, scurried around the home taking care of things while Mary sat at Christ’s feet, listening. As Father Ed pointed out in his homily, that might have been the very first example of Adoration.
